Celebrating Black History: Singing Out the Unsung
A celebration of Black History through an exploration of the work of Belle Davies, and of Edwardian & Georgian Black History.

The Dragon Café is excited to hold a celebration of heroes singing and unsung.
The programme’s highlights include the extraordinarily talented Helen MacDonald who will regale us with a live session drawing on the repertoire of Belle Davies who worked at nearby Camberwell Music Hall. Davies was one of the many black performers who made the music halls of Edwardian era into a thriving artistic scene.
We will round up the day with eminent Black British historian S I Martin. S I is a specialist in Georgian Black History, and a firm believer in the power of archives as an agent of positive change. S I has worked with and for the Black Cultural Archives, the National Maritime Museum, the V&A, Tate Britain, London Metropolitan Archives, National Portrait Gallery, and the Horniman Museum.
