Temporary Closure of Youth Centres and Adventure Playgrounds Due to Extreme Heat
About the story
Keeping Young People and Staff Safe During Extreme Weather
Due to the amber weather warning in place for extreme heat, with temperatures forecasted to exceed 33°C (feeling closer to 37°C), we have made the decision to temporarily close all Southwark youth centres and adventure playgrounds today and tomorrow.
The health and safety of our children, young people and staff is always our top priority. Although we had planned to implement safety measures—including cooling indoor areas, using only shaded outdoor spaces, and limiting physical activity—we’ve concluded that these actions would not provide adequate protection under the current extreme weather conditions.
What this means:
All Southwark youth centres and adventure playgrounds will be closed for two days.
We will continue to monitor weather updates and provide further information about reopening as soon as it is safe to do so.
Updates will be shared on our website and social media platforms.
We know how important our spaces are to young people and families, especially during the summer holidays, and we appreciate your understanding during this time. If you're looking for ways to stay cool and safe during the heatwave, visit the NHS heatwave advice page for tips.
Please continue to take care of yourselves and others. We look forward to welcoming everyone back very soon.
