American Football (South London Renegades)

Who can play American football?

Everyone. Boys and girls of all abilities aged 14 to 19 but a knowledge of the game would be good. The South London Renegades American Football Programme was started in 2008 by Steve Verrall. The programme started in Peckham with training taking place at Burgess Park.

The goal of the programme is to give children and young people aged between 16 years and 19 years the opportunity to learn and play American Football. American Football is an excellent sport for developing self-discipline, work ethic, mental focus and a team-first mentality as well as improving and maintaining general health, fitness and well-being.

The Renegades have had some notable successes since their inception reaching the quarterfinals of the British American Football Association National Leagues Junior division in 2014 and the semi-finals in 2015. Ex-Renegade Efe Obada, who started with the team as a 16 year old was drafted by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in 2015 going on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, he currently plays for the Buffalo Bills.
